Importing a motorbike from France

Hello fellow Glocalers.....

Has anyone done this? As with any Swiss administration I am sure there are several hoops to jump through, and a price to pay for each one also.

But with the low Euro right now, and lower prices in France, seems an opportune time to do this...especially as my old bike just got written off by the insurance after a spill 2 weeks back.

Thanks in advance for any help...

Hey Mark

Seems like the right time to do that indeed..

But i think you have to go through custom declaration (get the French VAT back and probably pay the Swiss VAT or some tax), then get a official vehicule check (certificat de conformité et expertise), show proof of Swiss insurance, and go to the bureau des autos in Carouge with all the required documents.

More office info here (in french): http://www.ge.ch/san/doc/importation_d_un_vehicule.pdf

Thanks for the response :-)

Yeah, that's what I have managed to find out...get back the French tax 19.8%, then pay 12% tva, and 4% import tax.....

Bonne weekend
