Information on Baby in Geneva

We are moving to Geneva in August with our then six month old son. Unfortunatly I do not know Geneva at all, in particular what a baby is concernced.

Does anyone have advice on creche/ daycare? Are the public ones good or should you opt for private ones?  Can you choose the Creche or does it have to be near where you live?  What

Can anyone suggest a pediatrician? I live in St. Jean.

Also can someone recommend baby classes.

I would be so grateful for some information.

Larissa:

Welcome (soon) to Geneva. It's a great place, but it has a real issue with child care.

The public and private creches in Geneva are both excellent. But the issue is that there's not enough of them, so there's usually a waiting list of up to ca 1 year to get in.

You might be bounced up the list if you meet certain criteria (single parent, kid needs special care, etc), otherwise you're in for a wait.

There's another solution called "mama du jour" which is typically a woman who keeps 2-4 kids at her place. There are regulated ones and non-regulated ones. Google that term up for more info.
