Initial accommodation, serviced apartments, cheap hotels?

Hello

Let me apoogise first if this question has been asked numbers times before. It must have but I seem to have found no legacy (probably because I am new to Glocals).

I will be moving from New Zealand to Geneva, arriving on 27 January. Can anyone point me towards 'cheaper' hotels, or serviced apartments that offer longer term stays, or provide any advice on 'cheaper' accommodation options for when I first get there until I have found a place?

I am hoping standard hotels are not the only option given their price : /

Any insights from your own personal experince on where you stayed as soon as you arrived would be greatly appreciated :)

You can also try this link: http://www.cagi.ch/en.php It's the Geneva Welcome Center. If you look under "housing" there is a link that allows you to download an Excel spreadsheet of furnished places in and around Geneva. It lists everything from guesthouses to apartments. Don't forget to look at the furnished apartment hotels in France (the second tab on the spreadsheet). I'm staying at an aparthotel in Ferney Voltaire for the first month and looking for a more permanent place once I arrive.

I've also stayed at the Starling Residence in Acacias. I really liked it for a few days, but their long-term prices were a bit too rich for my blood.

Hi Fran,

I just relocated here from Aus a few weeks back, and stayed for the first few nights using airbnb.com - if you don't already know of this website you may find it of interest, there is quite a lot available in Geneva for all budgets

I am looking for a short term rental, for example if you are going out of town for two weeks, I would be happy to rent your flat or room during this period. A friend of mine needs to be in Geneva for at least two weeks and hotel prices are prohibitive.
