I would like to re-insure my car in the UK so I can drive it when I go back for visits, but so far I haven't had any luck with UK insurance companies.

You can have an off road insurance against fire and theft but vehicle has to be registered as such with the DVLA. But I do not think you can change your insurance conditions several times a year. Assuming you have a good no claims bonus the cost versus hassle will not be worth it. Why not just leave it fully insured? If you were to bring to CH you could have problems with the MOT in CH

The car is currently off road (SORNED) and not insured. I cannot resinsure it with the same provider as I am now resident here with a Swiss license, which is against their terms and conditions. I don't intend to bring the car here to Switzerland. I just want to drive it whilst I am visiting the UK.

Have you tried NFU Mutual? I used to work for them and they will probably insure it.
