Planning to move to Geneva in January and need health insurance coverage. I know you can purchase coverage if you're registered in the Canton of Geneva, but I'm not sure I will be able to register as a resident right away. Does anyone have a suggestion for international health insurance plans or how to go about securing local coverage? Many thanks!

Hi Rachel,
I have a special situation as well, but live in and around GVA a lot. I use http://www.mondassur.com/ . Call centre etc all speak english and its quite affordable. The pay back is fast, but always call before agreeing to treatement of any sort in GVA and the operators check with the Doc they have while your on the phone if they will cover it. You will then have to get the medical report from the doc (usually automaticly sent with invoice by CH docs) and email/fax it to Mondassur showing, it was urgent/required treatment. I buy the Shengen Insurance package.
Hope it helps

Hi Rachel,
I'd suggest you check out www.comparis.ch. It's a service compare website for Switzerland and gives you an opportunity to check out different insurance providers as well as other services. There's also a section on moving to Switzerland that you might find helpful. Also, depending on the provider, once you have insurance for Switzerland, you can get extended coverage outside Switzerland for a nominal extra charge.
Good luck with the move!
Dan

Kevin and Dan, thank you both very much for your help! Still sorting through the options but learning a lot in the process.
