International delivery from CH to the UK
Hi all,

I'm moving to London and I'm going to send all my stuff by post from Geneva (no furnitures, only personal items, books, etc.).

Do you have any suggestions about the most suitable way without spending a fortune? I was thinking about the DHL service, do you have experience with it?

Thank you in advance!

Hi.

I switch between central Geneva and central London periodically and hence have done this a few times.  You need to be a little careful about the customs as you are crossing the EU border, but if it is mainly books and other purely personal stuff you should be fine if you fill in the declaration carefully.

I settled on using the regular Swiss parcel post and kept the parcel size down to a maximum of 80x60x60 cms.  It can take a couple of weeks, but it was less expensive than DHL (at the time, at least).  If you can drive over the border, you may find it cheaper to use the French parcel post.

Otherwise, as I drive between CH + UK 2-3 times per year, I just drive the stuff with me, which was very much the easiest option!

Kevin.

Hi,

we have used Luker Bros. They do door-to-door UK-CH-UK deliveries, part-loads, twice a week. They also sort out any paperwork (duty, etc.). We thought they were pretty reasonable, too.

Good luck with your move!
