Is French bank account necessary?

I am moving to France soon and wondering if the French bank account is necessary to subscribe to electricity, water etc. or Swiss will be enough? Does anyone have any experience with this?

I agree that you absolutely need a French bank account:

Most payments, e.g. local taxes, electricity, etc are much easier with a local bank account. (Most such payments are done by signing an agreement for them to pull money from your account, which wouldn't work with a Swiss account.)

Some locals only take payments in cheques. (E.g. doctors)

Using a Swiss credit card abroad will incurr more fees.
