Italy.
Never been there, so i am thinking now to go there for a few days.
Maybe someone can give to me some good advise where is the best places?
Like if i am going by train from Switzerland to Milan... what can i do there, where i can go in Milan and after? Maybe next stop Venice or other marvelous places?
I will appreciate all information and all good advises!
Best wishes,
Dace

Dace, i stayed only one WE in milan, but i just loved the city; obviously the cathedral is a must, one of the most beautiful i've seen till now. I was not there for shopping, just visited the famous things (including foot match at san siro; it was good fun). I wanted to see the Last Supper, but when i found out that one needs booking to see it, it was way tooooooo late (http://www.tickitaly.com/galleries/davinci-last-supper.php).
And i have a friend that stayed in milan for some days, and made day trips to venice and florence. I guess it`s quite crazy, too long inside trains, but doable anyway (if u dont mind staying only few hours in each city).
When are u going?
Cheers, Wanessa

I spent a week in Venice last year and felt it was too much. I'd say a couple of days should be plenty. Nothing particular that you have to see but I recommend taking an afternoon and just getting lost in the city.
Let me know how your Milan trip goes, it's on top of my list of cities to see.

O la la,looks very nice!:)thanx
Bellagio...is definitely worth a visit...but it may take you some time to get there from Milan if you are travelling by train....I seem to recall there may be a bus transport service which gets you there in approx 1h 30mins...just take this into account for your back-and-forth trip from/to the Milan Central train station.
Otherwise.....Stresa on the Lake Maggiore is worth a visit. Stresa is on the train-route from/to Geneva/Milan... some InterCity trains even stop there...

Train to Como, then bus to Bellagio. Last bus runs at 7PM or something, so be careful.

If you want to go to Italy why not go end of Feb to the carnival in Venice - people wear masks and ride the gondolas and come from all over the world - I was looking into it this week - FLYBABOO is best way to go as there are no other direct flights from Geneva - I was thinking of offering it to people on glocals and making a weekend trip out of it - if this might interest you call me on 076 519 1379.

Thanx for the info!
Hi,
Have to disagree about Milano :) It is worth your time even if you do not need any shopping! It is a very alive city and has a great atmosphere everywhere you go! Good food, good nightlife in other words a big change from Geneva!!! If you do not go now, you should go when it is warmer like April or May. You can often find open air events and see a very international Milan when you relax in a park.

I agree with Zina, There's much more than shopping to Milano, During the day the city may not be very appealing, but still it does have an extraordinary cathedral, a nice castle and some fine (albeit hidden) churches.
During the night, besides shopping, you can go to the opera house (where landing a ticket is far from hard), to the stadium for a football match, to a rock/jazz concert, to the disco or to one of many aperitivi that fill the districts of Brera and Navigli.
As for the drawbacks, Milano has few green areas and is far from being a relaxing city. At every corner you can expect to be bombed with noise or media publicizing some product or some news.
Still, at 25 CHF you should take advantage of SBB's offer!
PS: Carnival should be March 13th, as Milano has the last Carnival
