The main reason why the Jet d'Eau in Geneva is impressive because it was created in 1891.

Nowadays water pumps are much more advanced and creating a one is much easier. To me it shows just that government of Bahrain doesn't have a lot of imagination.

I looked the year up at Wikipedia because I wasn't quite sure. You're right; 1886 first jet, 1891 at current location.

The fountains at Petergof (Tsar Peter the Greats summer residence) in St Petersburg are equally impressive... built in the early 1700's they are powered by gravity...

The fountains or Versaille are very impressive too, with all the system that was built to bring the water.

Geneva has a long history with water, as the romans build an acqueduc to have a fresh water from the Voiron mountain long of 11 kilometers....which probably brought water to different fountains. That's an interesting subject.
