Language Schools....options

Ello fellow GLocals-erz (?)

I have decided its time I gave in to pressure and got me some French lessons.

Been looking at my options which seem to be Migros School, IFage or getting private lessons.

As far as Migros goes, I'm really not sure I trust a school that can't be bothered/hasn't realised the importance to prospective students to translate it's "French for beginners course" on its website into English?! Ifage is guilty of the same thing. (thank god for Google Chrome and its auto-translate)

Anyway, 'nuff of my moaning, can anyone recommend either or have any suggestions about alternatives?

There is a language school on the rue de Rothschild.  Not sure if you are a drinker but if you come out of Pickwick's thurn left to walk down rue de Lausanne towards the station and rue R. is second on the left and the building entrance is 20 metres down on the left.   They do beginners, intermediate and advanced courses usually in groups of a dozen or less.  Their method is quite good in that it is proactive. You have to take part.  I went on the advanced course for a couple of months which was interesting but at that level quite frankly it is more use to spend the time reading and talking to people.   Hoowever the beginners and intermediate are useful.  When I went they were very welcoming and gave me quite a long language test before deciding which group I should go into.  Other members of the group who had some knowledge of Ifag and Migros were very positive about this school.   Cannot remember the name but am sure some glocal can.  Also I think if you pay taxes in Geneva you have the right for free French lessons but these are not very good as are carried by trainee teachers and the groups are of mixed.  But, not sure if you read an article recently in the Telegraph. French has just been ousted from the top ten GCSEs and in the article it mentions that as most French menus have English translations underneath, there is absolutely no need to learn the language.   So, do you really want to spend your money only to find that no matter how well you speak, a Parisian, when he realises from your accent that you are a rosbif, will simply double the speed at which he speaks.   There are plenty of my French for your English proposals on glocals but they are probably not intensive unless the one offering the service s a very attractive member of the opposite sex

Hi I have been teaching french for the last 20 years, am a french native, have grown up in NYC, thus am perfectly bilingual.

I tailor my classes to your needs: first lesson is free and is to evaluate your level and show you my method based on internet exercices, paperbook exercices, reading, speaking and writing. I mix lots of different technics  according to level and needs and my teaching evolves with the student's progress.

I can teach anywhere in Geneva from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., from monday to friday. Lunch break slots are quite busy.

We can even work out a discount for an upfront payment for group or multiple lessons.

Currently teaching one on ones at a permanent foreign Mission in geneva.  On-going multi private lessons as well. Numerous references available upon request.

Review on Glocals available following this link:

Hope this appeals to you :)

I believe the school he is referring to near Pick's is ASC International House.  I don't know the other ones, but I can vouch for this one being quite good.  URL is here (and they do have it in English):  http://www.asc-ih.ch/

Thanks that is the one.  I also forgot to mention that when you sign up for a course you have access to their computer library and can in your free time do lots of simulated tests.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm looking to study evenings as my working days can be chaotic. Hmmm

You need to check on the website but I think ASC does evening courses and if they do not, then other schools mentioned will do
