Late-night cafe to read/work on laptop
Hi,

Does anyone know any cafes/diners anywhere around Geneva (French side is okay too) where one can read or work late at night? I get restless at night and want to find a place to work on my laptop (so wifi & power outlet would be nice) or read a book. Ambient noise is fine, but a bar won't work because of dim lighting.

I'm a little spoiled cuz we have tons of late night cafes like that in San Francisco, where I'm from. Any rec's for places in Geneva are greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Eric. I guess it depends on how 'late night' you mean as I'm not aware of any that are both reasonably quiet and cafe-like. As you say, there are bars etc but, naturally, they aren't that receptive to writers then. Though lacking in ambiance, Starbucks rive (French side) is open until 11pm most nights, and they have plugs (inside the door on the left, and back left corner behind the sofas - to reach the nearby table you need an extension cord). They also have free internet, you just ask at the cash register (it's not perfectly stable but enough to do emails etc). Also, they're amenable to long-stay customers. I'll stay tuned to see if others have suggestions as I'd like to know them too. There are also some general comments re cafes in the 'where' forum. Cheers

Left Bank of the Rhone, Cathedral St. Pierre side,  there are several cafés

Café Remor:  Place du Cirque 3, Trams 13, 15, tram stop Place du Cirque

Ethno:  across from Remor

Alhambar, 10 rue de la Rotisserie, www.alhambar.com, Trams 12, 16, 17, tram stop, Confederation Center, open late most nights except for Monday

Café Clémence, Bourg-de-Four, Trams 12, 16, 17, tram stop, Place Molard, one block forward, take right up Rue de la Fontaine

Some of the places might be a bit noisy but almost all have terraces.... See you around!

Thanks for the help! I'll definitely check out the places you suggested, and will post here if I find others.

Hey Eric,

You may also want to check out Calamar - Rue Carl-Vogt near Uni Mail/Plainpalais.

They are more of a trendy bar/resto at night, but they do have WiFi.
