Leaving GVA - what should be done?

As I have been offered a new job I will be moving back to Denmark, however I wonder what I need to take care of before, in terms of papers etc.

I understand I need to fill out a Formulaire d'annonce de départ but is there anything else I should do?

I have heard that I can claim some money back as well (from the pension I will not be using as I leave or something), does anyone know how this is done?

Thanks a lot for all help :-)

2 years ago I went through this.

I remember that I did the followings:

1. annonce de départ at the office cantonal de la population as you said. this will also be useful if you use a removal company to move your stuff out of Switzerland, as it has to be shown at the customs to avoid paying taxes

2. pension: you can either leave your money in your pension fund in CH and then benefit from it when you will retire, or you can just take the money and close the fund

3. there is a declaration for the Finances Office to be done, with which they check your final taxes balance http://ge.ch/impots/formulaire-de-d-part-particuliers-impos-

hope this helps

You might also be due some money from charges that are calculated at the end of the year by the regie.  Send them a registered letter with your forwarding address and ask for an accounting of any rebate due to you at the end of the period.

@ Federica, thanks a lot, I cant get the link for the Finances Office to work, what is it I need to do?

@ Translator, I actually keep my apartment as I have a flatmate who is like a kidbrother to me now, so letting him stay (and hoping on maybe being able to return again)

Don't forget to send your official documents -- permits, etc. by  registered mail so that you have proof you turned them in...

Good idea to keep the apartment...as you know what a nightmare it can be to find one here.

The best of luck to you. I am certain your new employers will be lucky  to have you!

I think I will actually go there in person, then I know it is done :-)

The affiliate of my current company have asked me to go work for them, so hopefully I can live up to the expectations, I am very much looking forward to the new experience, but will also miss Geneva (hence why I keep the option open to come back :-))

Thank you both!

The AVS (pension) that your company paid whilst you were working here to a Swiss pension company will be paid back to you when you leave... you will get 100% of it back, which you can either use to invest in property, or reinvest in a danish pension scheme..or spend on shoes... ;-))

Your company shoudl inform you of who to write to here....

Dont forget you get mnoney back when you hand in your car number plates, insurances, and etc etc.... collect it all...

Bon Voyage... and good luck.

Aaaaaaw sugarpie, Ill miss you too ;-)

Well considering I already paid the car cash here, then there is the little detail of paying 40-50.000 CHF extra to register the car in DK (our wonderful environmentally friendly country imposes huge taxes on cars - that is one thing I am not looking forward to) - to that you can add that I may have to pay custom fees (10,2%) as well as VAT (25%) yipeeee

Ouch.  A 10 minute Google made my head spin.  Good luck with that.  All I found was a short term solution..

We have literally just been through the process. It's not complicated, just time consuming.

About 3 to 4 weeks before you finish work here, your employers will give you your certificat de salaire. Complete the form that is on the link that Federica gave you. Go to the Départment des finances with your completed form, salary/tax certificate, passport, permit, latest bank statement and if you have any outstanding tax due to you then also take previous years certificat de salaire's. We were asked to bring our 2010 certificate as standard.

They only wanted to see the certificates and our permits in the end but they may ask to see other things so it's best to go well prepared. No appointments at this place but we arrived at 9am and were seen quickly.

They will look at your tax and you will either be asked to pay any outstanding tax or you will be given a refund. You will be expected to do this in the downstairs payment office there and then. They will give you a receipt and paperwork and stamp your permit to show you have been.

Then you need to go to the office cantonal de la population on Route de Chancy. When you enter the building (no88) you will see a whole stack of forms. It's form D if you are leaving. Queue at the reception for a ticket and be prepared to wait. They deal with all sorts of things at this department and it gets really really busy. It opens at 7.30am and I reckon the earlier you get there the quicker you will be dealt with. We arrived at 8.45 and it took almost 2 hours. They only wanted to see the completed form and our permits. We paid for ay attestations we required and they took away our permits.

That I believe is all you have to do.

Not sure about pensions.
