Legal Advice and Regies

HELP!!!

I am due to move out of my apartment this week with my contract ending Jun 30th, but my regie has today told me that the tenants due to take over from Jul 1st are no longer moving in and I am now obliged to pay the rest of my contract - until end October! This is clearly a long period of time, and a huge expense now I am committed also to another apartment from Jul 1st. Does anyone know of any good English Speaking lawyers in Geneva who can help me understand my position?

thanks!

A lawyer will cost you a fortune; go to ASLOCA instead and bring with you someone to translate.

question: did the future tenants sign a lease for your apt. with the regie?

if so, then it is no longer your problem. but of course the regie can always try it on.

If the regie gave you the ok to move out in some writen form I would say you should be ok.  Otherwise yes Alosca is a good bet.  Contact them and pay the joining fee.  Alternatively if you have the legal insurance use that.  Finally either find a new person to take the lease over on websites such as this, or sub let for 3 months to cover your expenses.

Unfortunately, if the person you suggested to the Regie was chosen by them but then does not sign the contract, it's up to you to find someone else. So unfortunately, very likely your Regie is right...

On the contrary, if you suggest someone who is interested but the Regie decides to choose somebody else, it's not your problem.

As suggested before, try to find another interested tenant as quickly as possible (or even several). But in any case, prepare to pay at least the rent for July. If you're in doubt, go to Asloca for advice.
