Living in France (Annemasse) - questions

I will move to France (Annemasse) by end of September. As I never had an apartment in France before, I have many questions regarding "la vie quotidienne":

Electricity: This will not be included in the monthly rent, so this will be my responsibility. Is there more than one provider? Can anyone recommend one? If there's only one, do I need to contact them before I move in?

Phone / Internet / TV: Can you recommend any providers (provided there is more than one...)? How long does it take to initiate the service, above all to get internet connection?

Gym: can anyone recommend a gym in Annemasse or on the way from Annemasse to Geneva? (As I currently don't have a car, it would have to be reachable by public transports.)

Any other advice regarding aspects I haven't thought of yet will also be very much appreciated. :-)

Electricity provider is EDF, you probably should contact them before you move in if you want to have electricity.

About TV/Internet/Phone, I use Free and I'm quite happy with them (but they don't have English TV Channels)

About the way Annemasse to Geneva, you've got the tram at the border that will take you in Geneva center. (border is Moillesulaz)

Patrick, thanks for bringing this thread back to top.

Bretrand, Thank you for the information regarding electricity. Sounds like there's only one provider, then?

I know how to get from Annemasse to Geneva - and back! ;-) -, the last question was regarding a GYM (fitness studio) in Annemasse or between Annemasse and Geneva. I would still very much appreciate recommendations on this!

Remember that when you work in CH and live in France, you will have to fill in a tax form sometime around May next year (for 2012).  Even if you might not pay extra tax in France, you will be liable for the yearly council tax bill for your flat as well as for the TV licence (it all comes in one bill and it is automatic).  If you don't, you might end up paying 2 or 3 bills in a row when they find you and they do do find...).

I also have EDF and to sign up with them you need to have French bank account. Same rule goes for signing up with internet/tv provider as well (plus some kind of proof that you live at your French address (e.g. electricity bill :P).

I have Orange as internet provider and I am pretty happy with them.

Hi, I am living in Annemasse too

I can help you for the gym. I am personal trainer, so I could tell you about the gym. But it depends which kind of gym you are looking for: It depends your goal.

For Internet, TV, phone, I use SFR, I don't have any problems with it.

And yes for the electricity we have only one provider EDF as Bertrand told you.

If you have any other questions, just let me know !
