London in May

Hi,

I'm going to London in May for a few days and looking for some interesting places to visit apart from the usual tourists places that i've already visited already as well as some ideas for some day trips from London.

Anyone did try to rent a Barclays bikes in London ? Is it convenient and easy to go around the city with it ?

Thanks in advance for any interesting tips,

Marion.

The best day trips from London in my opinion are:

* Cambridge: take the train there (I think from King's Cross), and join a walking tour by the Tourist Office. Better than Oxford because it's smaller so the university stands out more. But that's a personal opinion.

* Stonehenge: Quite far away and very touristy, but something you need to see at least once. We took an organized coach tour going there, that combined it with (I think) Bath. Available at every tourist office, but quite pricy.

* Windsor Castle and Eaton: home of the Royal Family, and very close to London.

* Within London: see a Musical.

Not sure how it works with the bikes.

Hi Marion

Brighton is just 1 hour away by train.  Apart from the sea, there is interesting shopping and some historical sites, such as The Royal Pavilion.

If you have a bit more time I would recommend a trip to The Lake District which, in my opinion, has the best scenery of the UK.  It's about 3 hours by train.

Within London you will find most of the interesting history in and around The City of London (note capitals) and the best places to go out at night around the East End.
