Looking for Geneva newcomers

Dear Glocals members,

I am a Phd Student at EPFL in Lausanne and I am presently conducting research on the socialization of international newcomers in Geneva. More specifically, I am trying to understand how internet forums or sites like Glocals for example, help (or don't help) to make contacts in order to find an appartment, a job, to get information about administrative issues or even to find friends.

As an anthropologist, I'm looking for volunteers to participate to face-to-face in-depth interviews of around one hour about the above-mentioned questions. Anonymity of the participants is guaranteed.

If you are interested or want more information about the aims and conditions of the research, please contact me (see below).

Thank you very much in advance and see you soon,

You would meet people but it would be more random and more time consuming. Geneva really does have a lot of English speakers so its not that hard to find people to meet

Sadly the disadvantage of glocals is that it provides a nice safe base where you can mix with other expats BUT it does not exactly encourage mixing with the locals. I can easily imagine a LOT of ex pats have no real intention of expanding their social circle outside of the expat scene

to the op - the advantages of sites like glocals is that you have a central store of info...the disadvantage is that a lot of that info becomes out of date quickly particularly about permits and unemployment
