Agreed - my first couchsurf was in Annemasse last year when I was in Geneva... all the people I have met through there have been awesome, and I'm still good friends with them! In my opinion, that would be your best bet, and most likely the cheapest!

try the premier travel inns. ususaly ok priced and always clean. good value for money for the uk.
