Hello!
I`d love to get a pug puppy, I think they are adorable and I am looking for a breeder, ideally in the Geneva area.
Have done some research but haven`t found anything yet :-(
Anybody can help me :-)?
Have a great day!

Gab:
Contact these guys - http://www.sgpa.ch/ - which are the biggest dog shelter in town. Maybe they have a pug you could rescue. If not, they could probably refer you to some breeders.

thank you so much, I`ll definitely contact them :)
Hi,
I'm not quite sure SGPA has a list of dog breeders, as most dog shelters are oriented in dog rescuing vs. breeders who are oriented in producing more dogs, knowing that many of these dogs will be abandonned sooner or later ...and end up in dog shelters. Anyway ...
One thing you should ABSOLUTELY remember when buying a puppy is NEVER buy on the internet (i.e. dog bought from Belgium to be delivered to Switzerland by plane, etc.), NEVER buy in a petshop (which are prohibited in Switzerland anyway, but allowed in many other countries), NEVER buy a dog if you cannot see the mother and cannot see where the breeder is living/working, etc.etc.
Why ? Because many of these puppies come from awful intensive production places, in some Eastern countries, but also here in France or Italy, called "puppy mills", where she-dogs are kept in cage their whole life to reproduce ever and ever until they die, puppies are removed from their mother too young which generates health problems, behaviour problems, etc.
So, buying a puppy takes time, time to select the right breeder and wait for the puppies to be born.
Also, a pure breed dog can be very expensive, because breeding in good conditions IS expensive. So, if asked price is much below than average price, beware ...
For a start, the best you could do is to check the local association of Swiss dog breeders for your little pug (carlin in French): http://www.chien.ch/
As I'm myself quite involved in dog rescuing, I can tell you I've heard some truly revolting stories about dogs, amateur breeders, etc.
One more thing, if you live in Geneva, there are some new binding laws concerning dogs, which I can explain if needed.
Hope you'll find a nice puppy, from a happy mother
