Martial arts in Geneva

Hello everyone,

for those studying any martial arts/self-defense classes, can you tell me about your experience with it so far? I am currently searching to join a club, but would like to know which ones are actually good. In these things I believe that, rather than choosing the art itself, we are limited by locations and availability. In this light, it would be better to look for the good teachers. Any recommendations?

Hello Kenneth,

My two kids are starting Judo in :
Judo-Jiu-Jitsu Institut
Rue Goetz-Monin 24, 1205 Genève

 022 321 20 03 ‎
I realy apreciate  the serenity of the place.
The track record is good,  the teacher is from the 3rd generation (his grand father created the club).

Hi Kenneth,

I am practicing Karaté Kyokushin for the last 2 years.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyokushin_kaikan

In the beginning I was seeking for a martial art close to reality and tough enough to improve my inner strengh, devellop my tactics and improve my skills...
I knew about traditional Karate (shotokan) but this type was not suiting me as there is no real contact...
Kyokushin is a real Full contact Karaté, and that is the reason why I started and now enjoying it very much!

I am practicing in 2 differents dojos, One is in Cointrin (Shinbudo martial art Academy- held on Mondays and Fridays from 6.30Pm to 7.45pm) and the other one is in Lignon (kyokushin Karate Club Held Tuesday 6.45pm-9pm)

In thoses dojos, there is many different martial arts and depending on your goals, I am sure you can find a discipline that would suits you ! :)

However, this week end, there is the Martial art & danse expo in the stadium Bout du monde. It's on saturday and sunday with a Gala/show in the evening.
It would be nice if you go there so you can have a complete overview about what you would like to do ! :)

I'm looking for Judo for kids in Geneva, age 5, ideally around Servette / Grand Sac / Airport. Anyone have any advice?

Hi folks,

Personally I'm doing Aikido and I love it. It's practical and applied, but peaceful... for non-agressive types, yet great for general awareness and entirely self-defense motivated. Plus it's typically popular with women, kids, and people of all ages (and sizes ;-)). But, as this was not a forum about which martial art to try... it's a personal thing which art or style you decide to choose. Anyways, for Kenneth and Nir, I can recommend the Shung Do Kwan Dojo in Servette. They actually do many different martial arts, (Aikido and Judo) and the instructors are great. It's a very serious dojo and yet the people are really friendly. I'm not sure if they have Judo for kids, Nir, but they probably do and a phone call is all it takes. Happy training!!

Hello Kenneth,

I don't know about the first school, but I met students of MMA and Escrima from the MIG school at an Inosanto seminar. They had a good level and had a friendly attitute. They have a large array of different M.A so the "type" of students or the atmosphere might be different at the other martial arts in this school I do not know.

What are you looking for in particular?
