Mike Wong - response to my complaint

Popped into Mike Wong's for the first time last week for a quick bite and found a piece of "coiled" metal in my soup - luckily I didn't eat it, but passed it to the staff who said "oh, err, thanks". Anyway, sent a letter to complain later on, and here's their response.. pretty surprising reply..

Monsieur

compensation.
Nous avons licencié la caissière entre-temps.

Nous espérons avoir répondu selon votre attente.

Veuillez agréer, Monsieur, nos meilleures salutations.

Bibi: they're not saying the caisse guy was fired specifically because of this incident.

I like Mike Wong. It's scary to see this about the metal in the food though! On the other hand, it's nice to see their management acknowledging the issue and doing something about it.

At least they answered. I wrotte to Mc Donald years ago for them to change theyr security/hygiene policies after I found out a guy (friend of a friend of mine)
urinated in the box where they mix the meat because he thought that was 'funny'Frown . They never answered back. The incident itself occured long ago.

Agree that it is good that they answered and acknowledged the problem. However, the way he responded was not very professional, imo. I replied to him and stated that I beg to differ that the metal piece was "not dangerous" and that he should have compensated me as he did mention the cashier should have - evidently the management need training and reminding too! ;) Anyway, his further response is even more surprising..

Hello

What would you like as suitable conclusion? Like in the states, at least 2
billions? Or another big soup without heavy metal could you satisfy?

Laughing Unbelieveable!!

If you feel strongly enough about it, why not write to the Société des cafetiers, restaurteurs et hoteliers de Genève and ask for their opinion?

Hi Chris,

much as i sympathise, i am at a loss to know why you think you should be compensated.

Did you suffer physical injury? It seems not.

David,

Do you not think that if you were in the middle of eating an you found a piece of metal in your food, you would not be keen to finish the food, and you may feel a bit queezy?!

I think the reply from this guy at Mike Wong's is extremely unprofessional.

He should have immediately offered me a replacement bowl of soup, instead of acting very unproffessionally with his response. I'm not looking for anything else beyond that, but the level of customer service (from management) shocks me, hence posting to let others see, and share their opinions!

Hi Chris,

Another bowl of soup is one thing (although if you felt queezy you probably wouldn't want it) but expecting compensation is quite another. The guy is absolutely right, these things happen, that's life. No-one died. In fact no-one suffered any injury as far as I can tell.

Now come on, was it really that much of a big deal? I have found hairs and unitentifiable items in meals at top restaurants, but I'm not so naive that I think someone is to blame and want to make a fuss over it.That would just create stress for myself and whoever I'm with, creating a negative vibe and ruining the occassion.

If something I ate really made me ill, or injured me in some way, that's different. Then it's time to complain.

The world would be a much nicer place if we didn't spend so much time looking for someone to blame for every little thing that goes wrong, usually with the premise of making some sort of financial gain. Of course, I'm not suggesting that you are trying to do that but many do and it makes me slightly uncomfortable with the world.

Regards

David

Chris: don't let David's "slight uncomoft with the world" get to you. When you find a piece of metal in your restaurant food then something is clearly wrong, and the resto is indeed to blame. I don't think you over-reacted at all when you told the owner about it.

Nir - don't worry, not letting David get to me - he's entitled to his opinion and approach to life - which is clearly different to mine is some ways.

In this whole episode, I'm more surprised how the management has acted than anything else. I really don't have a problem with anything or anyone, until they don't respect me - at that point I'm happy to make other people aware about it. Likewise, if I have had great service, or really enjoyed something I think it is improtant to share the experience with everyone else..

Too many companies and people have had it too easy, for too long in Switzerland.

Totally agree with Nir, it is unacceptable that you found a piece of metal in your food. It is not a matter of complaining over nothing. When one pays for a meal, one expects both good service and to eat food without any strange metallic bits! Manager sounds a bit daft and not very bright! Maybe he should have fired himself lol!

Yip - manager does seem to be a "bit daft"... has told me it would have been different if he was there, and re-iterated that he has fired the girl. If he has fired someone for this minor incident, then he is a complete clown - its more likely down to his poor training that the staff did not know how to respond to any incident.

Not overly keen to collect my "free" meal.
