Missed deadline to exchange driver's license

Hi,

I have been living in Geneva for about two years now and just found out that I should have exchanged my driver's license within one year of arriving here, so it seems like I missed the deadline. I never drove a car during this time in Switzerland though - only abroad. Do any of you know if the Geneva authorities will still let me exchange my driver's license or do I actually have to take the Swiss driving exam for this? I have heard that in Zurich they are not too strict about his, but what about Geneva?

Thanks!

I exchanged my swiss drivers licence 8 years ago, and it was way beyond deadline. At the time, the Geneva "office de l'automobile" in Carouge was incredibly accommodating and didn't even bat an eyelash that i was about 2 years late. Maybe just go there and try your luck?

Effectively, the rule is that if someone takes up a residence in Switzerland, he or she should convert his/her foreign driver license within one year: http://ge.ch/vehicules/permis-de-conduire-et-permis-deleve/echange-dun-permis-de-conduire-etranger.

I also heard about a case in which the authorities did not require that the applicant must pass the driver license again when the application was filed late. Good luck
