Moving back to the UK permanently

Hi everyone,

I hope this thread finds you all happy and well.

I am looking to get some guidance on how to leave Geneva properly after living and working here for some time.

Please could you share your knowledge on what needs to be done for the following:

How to manage lease takeover from my current apartment
- What is the standard notice period - I don't mind paying the early release fee
- How to ensure that the apartment is readily available for the next tenant?

How to inform Geneva I will be leaving permanently?
Will I need to close my bank account?
And anything else I need to do?

Any help and advice would be most appreciated.

Kind regards,
Emily

Hi Emily,

In answer to your questions;

For the apartment, depending on your contract, youll need to give notice to your landlords, who will inform you what they expect regards finding a replacement tennant (or not)... in any case you'll need to leave the place the way you recieved it... ie devoid of any furniture, fittings curtains etc and cleaned to a professional standard.

For the formal departure from Switzerland you'll need to inform the office de population who will issue you with a leaving certificate... you'll need to make sure your up to date with your taxes and bills etc. more info here:

https://www.geneve.ch/en/themes/civil-status-life-course/demenager-geneve/leaving-geneva

Regards the banking etc... depends on your account type... your bank will advise you best on this.

Removals firms are not cheap, depending on how much you need to take with you... its worth contacting UK firms as well to see if you can get space on a returning truck..

Good luck with the move.
