Moving to Geneva

Hi all,
My name is Martin and I'm moving to Geneva early June for work, really looking forward to it but could do with some local knowledge. 1st off I need info on accommodation (was thinking a guest house to start to keep costs down) also info on transport night life and even mother and toddler groups for when my partner and son join me.

Am sure that there is probably more I haven't listed but any info will be much appreciated

Cheers

Hi Martin, let me just focus on accomodation. Geneva is terribly expensive and it will take time for you to find an apartment. Hotels are also expensive so some kind of guest house may be a good idea.

I don't know any, but I think you should look around Geneva (e.g. within a 20km radius) because that will make things much cheaper. Focus on the side of Geneva where you work so you don't need to get through the center during rush hour. Unless your visa doesn't permit it, definitely look in France because prices there will be much lower.

Just a few towns you may want to look at:

In Switzerland: Coppet, Versoix, Nyon

In France: Annemasse, St Julien, Ferney, Gex

Hello Martin,

I am renting a 2 bedrooms apartement in Ferney Voltaire which is basically 5 km from the centre of Geneva and just next to the airport. it will be available from 01.06.12.

Feel free to check the advert where you can see the pics. ..just go to classifieds and type ferney voltaire, it is the one at 1720 euros per month.

Regards.

Even with a small company the HR depasrtment should be able to help on this. The first company I worked for here was only about 5 people but they had five falts lined up for me when I arrived based on the detailed information I gave them-

You statement am looking for accomodation is too vague.

Residences are probably the cheapest. Check out cité iuniversitaire and others http://cite-uni.unige.ch/ but ask you work to give you a list and assign someone to help you

Cheers Chris,

Do you have the details listed anywhere or would you have any pictures to view?
