Just keep in mind that moving to an other canton is like moving to an other country. Things can be very different specially if going to a Swiss German canton. If you have children, holidays can be differ from one or two weeks, and school programs are also different.

Which canton and city are you moving to?  From Geneva to Vaud?  Are you on a B permit, C permit or Carte de Legitimation?

If a regular permit, within 7 days, you go to the Controle des Habitants in the town you've moved to to announce your arrival.  Take your rental contract, current permit, work contract, photos, etc.   You then wait for a letter in the mail to say your permits are either (a) ready or (b) you need to go to Lausanne to get photos for a biometric permit.  

You also must go to the Controle des Habitants in Geneva to announce your departure from Geneva.   And of course inform all your insurers as your rates will change.   And then get new license plates if you have a car.

Is there an approval process for changing the B permit from one canton to another?  Does changing cantons while on a B impact eligibility for a C permit?  Definitely ask these questions...
