"NOCHE LATINA" : Where to DRINK and/or EAT and/or DANCE latino style ?

Hi,

I'm starting to organize una "noche latina"... I'd like to list and have your feedbacks and marks about the places where we can DRINK and/or EAT and/or DANCE in a latino style.

From what I know as of today:

- Drink/(Dance?) : "Barrio's latino" (please give your feedbacks)

- Drink/(Dance?) : "Brasseur des grottes" (please give your feedbacks)

- Drink and Eat : "Cafe Cuba" (please give your feedbacks)

- Drink and Eat : "Santa cruz" (please give your feedbacks)

- Dance : "MAD" (please give your feedbacks)

- any other place ?

Other question: What would you expect in a latino night ? Describe dress-up, decoration, music, tapas, ... ? Please describe me your ideal night ? Any other original idea ?

Spanish speakers, please participate !!

Also tell me if you'd like to be present...

Thanks

                   Damián

Post 1

Damián,

My impression (as a non-Latino dancer):

Barrios: I don't go there much. Tiny dance floor, difficult to move around, and also difficult to invite the ladies. So it's best if you go as a group.

Brasseur des Grottes: It’s a restaurant with dance floor downstairs. Mainly pizza etc, but they could probably arrange latino food. The dance school has on some occasions arranged buffets on the dance floor. As a salsa place, it’s become one of the favourites in town.

MàD: Great dance place, but you should come early, otherwise it’s too crowded. It’s a cooperative, so they may accept arranging a special evening. (If on the normal salsa night, Thursday, this would probably have to be when there are no courses, i.e. July or September.

I suggest looking at some of the schools, e.g salseros-de-hoy (Vernier) or salsa-virus in Thonex. (Or tomorrow sabor latino is organising a big evening in Onex, try hooking up with them). I went recently to the Kentucky dance club in France, they have a marvellous place, but you cannot get there without a car.

If you define tango as a latino dance, you should check out tango-sr.com. There are in fact more communal activities in tango than in salsa, and especially in summer, there’s a great deal of outdoor activities, to which one could hook up. (It may not be what you’re planning, but I could imagine a picnic in the Parc du Perle du Lac, in conjunction with the outdoor tango there.)

Let me know if I can help any more,
