Need advice re: UN jobs for undrep'ed states

Hi,

I heard that country missions in Geneva often receive lists of the international organisations' jobs openings in order to encourage unrepresented countries' citizens to apply.  I am from an unrepresented country and looking for work, but my mission has no such information. I am sure that someone in human resources at the international organizations is looking for a way to boost representation, but do not know how to put my candidature out.

If you know of any job lists or HR personnel specifically tasked with improving diversity, I would very much appreciate the advice.

Thank you.

If you are from the US and want assistance in your application, read here:

http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/56724.pdf

The US State Department also publishes and updates a biweekly list of vacancies in international organizations. You can find it here:

http://intlorganizationjobs.state.gov/iva/Reports/International_Vacancies.pdf

It is highly unlikely that the US is unrepresented in any international organization, especially at the upper professional level posts. In some cases, the US might be under-represented, but that may not help much if you don't have the required credentials and support for your application.

Good luck!

@Trish M, I am only of the YPP (formally NCRE) which is basically an exam open to underrepresented member states.  Country missions are informed and should publicise this information in their own countries.  Exams are normally held in December and successful candidates are placed on a roster.  Even then candidates still compete with each other for jobs as and when they are available.  The age limit is 32.  I do not think the UN recruits from underrepresented member states in any other way but I may be wrong.

correction: @Trish M, I am only aware of the YPP (formally NCRE)

- and as of 2011 the US is underrepresented at the UN.
