Need help and advice! Flat issue In Geneva.

Hello Everyone,

After a very long time I just found a 5pieces apartment in Geneva and they gave two weeks’ notice to signe the contract and move. I had a fix term contract with old flat and thought to sublet it foe the last one and half month while our contract was ending. I sublet it to a couple and presented them to the regie as well. After two weeks we received a letter from regie that they dont accept the couple whom we presented and at the end of March the flat should be handed over to the regie but the sublet contractor said that can leave the flat as she has no place to go now and they are still there. Today I received another letter from regie that until end of April the flat should be handed over and we have to pay the rent for April.

I am 8 months pregnant and my husband is out of the country also these days my pregnancy is getting complicated that at least once a week I have to see my doc to see if everything is normal. Dealing with flat issue is quite heavy work for me and we are not is a good financial situation to get a lawyer to solve the issue.

Anyone has idea how to deal with it please?!

I contacted them and they simply said they can’t help as they normally help the issues between regies and contractors not sublet lesser.

I would suggest that you go to a “Permanence juridique” for an initial consultation which will cost CHF 50-60.  There is one in rue Verdaine and another in rue de la Terrassière in Eaux-Vives.

As far as I know, a furnished rental which is paid monthly may be terminated by either side on one month’s written notice given by recorded delivery (which is also sometimes called “registered mail”).

In the meantime, would your husband’s employer be able help you while he is away?

Best wishes, R.
