Need help pointing a satellite dish

I need help pointing a satellite dish to Astra2D for use with a Sky box (digital) in Ferney-Voltaire. Who can help or recommend someone? I'm looking for a (semi-)professional, not for instructions on how to do it myself.

Thanks,

Hermen

We used a place on Route d'hermance close to Collonge- Bellerive. They seem to do everything from installation to maintenance/ adjustment.  Very professional but was a long time getting an appointment,

Im sorry its not a great help because I can not find the name but the shop is still there for sure..

You need to make sure your dish is at least 70-80 cm

You might ride over to Jim's Mini Market in St. Genis-Pouilly.

There's a guy by the name of Stuart that has done all of our installations, mods and reloacations. He's quite good and pretty close to you.

Here's some technical info, if you're trying to do this, yourself. This should at least get you close. Then you can tweak it in until you get your strongest signal by turning on your TV, setting the Receiver on it's settings page, then signal, then input signal strength. Slowly manipulate the dish until you get the strongest signal indicated on the screen indicator and tighten the dish mounting clamps.

Your LocationSatellite DataDish Setup DataView dish alignment line in Google Earth

Latitude: 46.2576°
Longitude: 6.1087°

Name: 28.2E ASTRA 2A | ASTRA 2C | ASTRA 2D | ASTRA 2F
Distance: 38394km

Motor Latitude:  46.3°
Declination Angle:  6.9°
Dish Elevation:   °
Elevation:  32.5°
Azimuth (true):  150.7°
Azimuth (magn.):  149.4°

LNB Skew [?]:  -12.3°

thanks so much everyone, the dish is 90cm and the box is a freesat box i bought new in UK recently. The dish is on a rigid pole on a heavy duty garden umbrella stand (temporary), but solid. The angle im aiming it at is in line with the google map angle +/- a degree but i can move the dish easy enough, The elevation is what i think im not quite getting right nor how the LNB needs to be offset. My digibox only stays on the satellite stringth and quality scan about 15 seconds then says "signal lock failed" - does this mean it wont react to me moving the dish after that? otherwise i have to go back to the set up menu each and every time i tweak the dish?

I know Jimmys market and may just go and call the guy out, but i have time and a degree of patience just now :-)

here's some pics - im unsure about the angle of elevation in relation to this setup. the dish is 90cm min - may even be 1m. the LNB angle says 12 degrees clockwise looking at the dish - id this correct looking? the dish is pointing basically from Fernay Voltaire (ave de vessy) slightly right of Mt Blanc over the Saleve based on the line i saw on google earth online for satelittel alignment. Whats the tolerance of angle for any/no signal? am i wasting my time barking up the wrong tree? thanks for any advice.

hi there,

lookig at your photos, you're trying to use the the "alps" lnb which is positioned to capture the secondary lobe of the astra 28.2 satellite. you need to use the other lnb and aim your dish to receive the primery lobe of the 28.2 astra satellite. also, because of the recent change of the astra 28.2 footprint, secondary lobes are too weak for reception here in this part of europe.

the offset angle of your dish is 22 degrees (built in ) and in your photo you are aiming at about 40 degrees (way too high! ) it should be around 36 degrees elevation. ( if your pole is EXACTLY 90 degrees perpendicular. otherwise you are off as well.

don't forget that azimuth will be magnetic south ( 183 degrees minus 28.2 degrees to the east)

as this is an offset dish, ou may want to lower the height to almost floor level as the balcony overhang may be cutting off some of the signal.

if you have never done this alignment before, unless you have days of free time, either buy a sat signal measurement device on line ( about 30 to 450 euros) or call a specialist. normally, it would take 10 minutes max. for me to install. ( but i have done over 350 insatllations and used to have my own sat buinsess!! :-)
