In this age of global warming and extraordinary pollution, I'm surprised that there are still people who pubiically admit to promoting cars and other driving, frequently with no practical reason for driving, and to unnecessarily consuming petrol.

Petrolheads is an old term that is used to describe car enthusiasts. It doesn't mean that it can't be a Tesla or any other "green" type of car.
The world as it is needs cars. They don't have to be petrol powered. If you banned cars around the world it would be the end of civilization as we know it. It takes time to evolve into a carless society. Don't forget that most of the world doesn't have Post busses that are state subsidised and travel to every corner of Switzerland.
