New to Geneva.. apartments hunt is confusing :(

Hello there,

I hope everyone is doing fantastic!

I am about to move to Geneva and I am in deep need of some advice because I can't find an apartment that would fit my needs :(

I have tried looking on craiglist, but I feel like evry other post there is a scam.

I am really struggling and I would take any advice on agencies/agents/etc

Thank you sososo muchWink

Anna.

Everything on Craigslist is indeed a scam.

Click on the classifieds tab on here for a start, and do a forum search on here for other links - including recent threads listing apartment hunters companies.

And check the local free papers...

Basically more central apartments cost more, the further u go from the lake its cheaper.

And of course the size matters as well, how many rooms.

Surely with some exceptions.

Peace...

Here are some serious webistes which may be useful to you:

immostreet.ch

homegate.ch

You can also have a relocation agency assist with your home search, in which case I recommend Sigma Relocation, www.sigmarelocation.ch, +41-(0)22-707 65 10.

Good luck and welcome to Geneva!

You should try to go regie by regie through the link above.

Otherwise you can look in classic newspapers/websites ads.

You can write an ad there and propose a "special commission" (without telling how much) in it explaining you are seeking a place at X price, located in the desired neighborhood etc...

Most of poeple who wants to leave their place just have to give 1 applicant to the regie for the flat they are living in ; so the target is that you would be the only one proposed  to the regie

It save the guys to do the visits  + get a bonus from you!! :)

Bonus should not exceed 1/4 of the rent I think ...

Cheers

Good luck

Hi, I'm also moving in to Geneva in August, and I am a bit lost.

I was told that in order to rent an apartment one must be registered and "cleared" by the regie, but now I see there are several regies. Are the regies per neighborhood? Is this a process that I could start now? Could I obtain a blanket registration for the city of Geneva or does it need to be for the apartment I select?

Many thanks for any help,

Mirey

Beware of a Geneva speciality: the kitchen counts a a room!

If you see a "appartement de 3 pièces", it means 2 rooms + 1 kitchen Wink

You can have a try with this Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/appartementgeneve?ref=ts&fref=ts

Apartments hunt is not just confusing.
It is nerve wracking, unnecessary difficult and ridiculously expensive in Geneva.
I am searching for months now...  :(
Good luck...

If you have friends or family here, use them!

We initially applied through a couple of regies, but then my sister (who lives here) found out some friends were moving elsewhere on a posting. I've just taken up a sub-lease over the apartment. I know I've been very lucky with this...
