Has anyone heard about Niam's massage? I just got a text message saying it's closing down and my appointment for Sunday's cancelled; tried calling on the numbers provided and went to the voicemail; tried sending an email and got an autoreply and said it's closed. Problem is that I bought 5 coupons from them at the beginning of the year and each one worths 2 hours of massage and a grand total of more than CHF 600... what should I do???

I don't know what/where Niam's Massage is. However what you need to find out is if they went bankrupt or just shut things down. If they didn't go bankrupt you definitely have the right to get either a refund or the remaining massages. If they did go bankrupt it will be harder to get anything from them, but even so you should figure out who is handling the bankrupcy and file as a creditor.
Perhaps you can start by dropping by, and see if there's a sign on the door or something. I'm not sure how to advance from there. Perhaps someone else knows if there's some kind of legal aid organization where you can go for a (free or cheap) consult.

I checked quickly a few information on internet. Their website seems to have been closed. From this very preliminary search, the massage center does not seem to have been organised through a corporate structure (like a company). There is a Facebook account for the massage center and the administrator is a private person (Mr Nanthawat Niamsang).
It is therefore likely that the center was structured as a sole owner business (société en nom propre). If I were you, I would not wait too long and I would check if this person has a record with the bankruptcy and debt collection office ("Office des poursuite et faillites", 46 rue du Stand). You should go there in person and ask for an excerpt for this person ("extrait des poursuites"). In principle, they only give you the information if you justify your claim, indicate that you advanced money and that they closed the business.

I think that something happened today. I first sent a request for booking on Saturday and initially got a usual polite reply that the term I wanted as busy but I was offered another two on Saturday. I wrote back within an hour to confirm one of the two other terms. Very soon I got a reply that there are no slots available on Saturday and (similarly to you Cindy) a sentence that Niam massage is closing and that I should use any unused coupons. I was a bit taken a back, but now that I see your message Cindy, I must share I am also concerned about Niam. Even if it were not through corporate structure (and maybe not even officially registered, I don't know, but then so many things occurring through or at least advertised through glocals don't seem to be), he seemed like a sweet and professional young man and I am concerned about him like yourself. Watching the anti-human trafficking an slavery on the CCN lately, for all we know, he might not have been the one benefiting from the money we paid him to massage us...Or maybe I am overreacting, I', not sure what to think...I am not sure what can be done...

I know Niam very well and and there is no reason to make a fuss about it.
So instead of calling the world for it, just get in touch with Niam for your refund. Simple, easy and respectful.

I got a reply from them and they are going to refund. I posted this on the forum after not having any replies and was surprised their website was closed. But as I said, Niam's a very nice and sweet man so it was not my intention to make a big fuss out of it . It's just a pity that it happened all of a sudden and as I wasn't able to get more info after being informed of their closing down I was certainly worried about his safety. I wish Niam all the best and he's still one of the best masseurs i have ever had. If he's going to start up another massage centre I will definitely go again.
