Noise regulations in France

Hi all,

We live in one of the small French villages around Geneva (Prevessin) and recently we've had some issues with neighbours being very loud at night (music, shouting, etc'). What are the noise regulations in france with regards to such matters? Are there any quiet hours by law? Who can we contact in such cases when the neighbour refuses to turn it down?

Thanks!

Nir

Call the Police and they'll fine them for "tapage nocturne".

10pm is the maximum for 'noise nuisance'.  You can call the gendarmerie. After 10 pm, noise is a definite no no...  Earliest is 7am I believe.

there are other regulations when it comes to noise nuisance, be it mawning the lawn or building work, etc and authorized hours.

keep a diary with noise nuisance types, dates and times.
