Non-EU Permit with Employment

Hi there. This is my fourth year living in Geneva (2 year graduate program + internships). I am currently on a L permit through the Young Professionals Program. I am a U.S. citizen and I have an open contract with my employer as an analyst. However, my L permit will expire in September 2019 and my employer would like to begin the process to renew this permit, be it an L or a B permit.

I am wondering if anyone has experienced receiving a permit as a Non-EU with their employer and how the experience was. Is it recommend that my employer hire a lawyer to help with the process? I understand my job needs to provide proof of needing me. Also any experience with providing a language attestation to the OCPM?

Thanks everyone! It's a bit of stressful process, just trying to get as much information as possible!
