Numberplates for a swiss car
We decided to buy a car of a suisse person from canton Vaud.

We have to put the car on our name oursefs and buy the new numberplates.

Where to go, how to do this? Does anybody has expercience with buying cars of privat person?

This is how it works...

1. get a copy of the grey card from the owner to get a valid insurance.

2. Get the original grey card from the owner ( check the control technic validity date), and a copy of the insurance. Take them to the Automobile office at Carouge ( if u want GE registration) and u get the plates.

It's fairly simple.......i did the process a few months back.

Thanks for the answers,

Fortunately we do speak french, now we understand the procedure.

It's different form the situation in Holland, where we have in stead of a Permis de circulation an ownership card. It belongs to the car and no name is written on it. If you are the owner of this card you are also the owner of the car.

I understood that it is the same here, when you have the grey card tou are the owner, but every time the car has a new owner, there will be made a new grey card.

Thanks again, Anita
