Hi,
I am looking for somebody in Geneva who could translate a diploma from english to french. I found already a few websites but their offers were way too expensive for my budget (for eg. on www.ge.ch 85chf+20 extra)...
Any better idea?
Thank you!

If you need an official translation of a document, you have to hire the services of an ccredited translator whose charge will be in accordance with a fixed tariff for such work. And without seeing your diploma, I would say that CHF 85 + 20 is not an unreasonable fee, especially if you compare the competence and experience involved with the going rate for a cleaning lady in Geneva (who may not even be literate) of CHF 30 per hour.
However, you could also contact the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of the University of Geneva to see if they could offer some help.
All the best, R.

Did you find anyone to do the job, Gina?
How many pages long is your diploma (I am wondering about the 20.- extra.... is that an extra page?).

Hi,
Yes I found somebody, but if she does the translation that wouldnt be accepted by the canton (65 chf). She said the same, that if I want that they accept it in schools for example, there is a plus fee ( this 20 chf).
So the easiest way the ge.ch website and find the right person.

Well either she is an official translator, either she is not. I don't get the two prices quoted.
The minimal fee for an official translation is 80.-

There are no two ways about this. If you want your diploma to be taken into consideration for employment, you need a translation by a translator who has the accreditation to undertake such work.
What’s more, an official translation might also come in useful on other future occasions, so it’s money well spent.
