Opening bank account - no permit avaliable until September

Hello everyone,

I am moving to Geneva on the first week of August from Mexico and I need to open a Swiss bank account to receive my previous employment final settlements. I will have a student status.

The problem is, I will not have my permit available by then since I will move to my permanent address until September 1 (I do not have the lease agreement yet).

I am wondering if you knew any bank branch (maybe a UBS branch) where they would agree to open an account with only my passport and a temporary address and letter of acceptance from my university?

Thank you!

Try this to open an account online:

https://www.ubs.com/ch/en/private/accounts-and-cards/apply-account.html

If you have a temporary address, your application may go through.

I opened two accounts at UBS without a Geneva address, as I live in Ornex, France.

Also, if you have a bank account in Mexico, find out:

a) if your bank has a branch in Geneva (unlikely, but possible) or

b) if it has a partnership with a Swiss or international bank, as many do, in which case,  you can easily make withdrawals from your account in Mexico through the partner bank, without charge.

Once you are able to open an account in Geneva, though I expect it will be easy, you can transfer all your funds, bank to bank.
