Our cave is leaking - how to lift cardboard boxes up off floor?

We just went to get our artificial Christmas tree from our storage cave, and the box is coming apart and covered with mold.

It may be too late already, but does anyone have some suggestions as to how we could easily and cheaply raise a bunch of boxes up off the damp concrete floor?

thanks for any ideas!

IKEA shelves units for caves / garages are really cheap.

And you can of course decide how much you want to raise them up off the floor.

Simple DIY.

I had this problem and put bricks with boards across so the whole floor is lifted. Does not look nice but as the cave is full you cannot see the handiwork. Cost me nothing as I just went foraging

It's a good suggestion.  I did the same once, except that I put just enough bricks and boards to lift the cardboard boxes only.  Some objects (e.g. plastic tables and chairs, bikes) don't need this.

can't helpit-I had a similar reaction to the word "cave".But my thought was,"get some sabre-tooth tiger skins and use them to cover the holes-or,if all else fails, move to another cave"

Sorry to be flippant - but it's just a funny post title!!

Hmmm interesting topic ....

This has happened to me in the past, mainly due to poor drainage .  My home insurance did compensate me to a certain extent which was nice.

May i suggest that you strategically place all objects with an offset off the ground to prevent this troublesome problem to happen again, it is a 'nerdy' task but needs to be done to prevent another major catastrophy occuring.  And if possible investiguate the root of the problem, every effect has a cause.

Thanks for all the suggestions!  We ended up buying some sheeets of styrofoam insulation and putting the boxes on that.  There were a lot of moldy boxes, unfortunately - yech.

Hi Sylvia,

Styrofoam is not resistant to mold, so I would recommend you to regularly check it if you mean this to be a long term solution on the still damp concrete floor.
