Outdoor climbing/bouldering spots near Geneva?

Hi guys,

Now that the sun has come out and the temperature has gone back above zero, I'm keen to do some outdoor climbing or bouldering, and was wondering if anyone could recommend any good spots? I know there are a lot of routes at the Saleve, but I'm wondering if there's anything else close by? In particular, any fun bouldering spots?

I don't have a car so am looking for places that are easy to get to by bus or bike...

Cheers,

Kitty :)

Hi Kitty,

I have a car! Do you have the kit? I have my own shoes, harness but no ropes.

I climb weekly indoors and climb roughly 5c/6a. Would love to start climbing more outdoors now the spring is here.

Fancy going somewhere together, we can check out sixt fer a cheval perhaps? its close by.

cheers M

Hi Miriam! Yes I have a rope and about 8 quickdraws, I guess that should be enough for some short climbs? I climb about the same grade as you (well, maybe a bit less these days as I'm pretty out of practice!) so it would be great to get outdoors some time. Where is the place you mentioned? Do you have a guidebook?

Hey Kitty,

I know there's some bouldering at the foot of the saleve, about a 20 min car ride from Geneva. Asked a climbing friend for more info, will post as soon as I have news.

about the salève, you've got this book that you can download ONLY if you understand french. It's been written in 1990 by people who climb the Salève.

now, you have seveal clubs, the Salève is a well known place for climbers. ( It gave the name Varrape to french climbing words. (it's the name of one of the way, if my memory is good)

Hey K,

So Check this out:

1. glocals Rock Climbing / Bouldering group, with nearly 400 members: http://www.glocals.com/#/groups/geneva/geneva-rock-climbing-group.htm

2. Previous thread on bouldering, with some links:
http://www.glocals.com/#/forums/geneva/where-how-in-geneva/87683.htm

3. Copy-paste from the above thread:

"At the base of the Saleve rockband (5 minutes from where you park the car, on the left, before you enter the woods) there are a few boulders. Some are even bolted at the top if you go with a partner.

Look up Collonges sur Saleve on google maps, then locate Le Coin. The parking I'm talking about is some 500 metres north from Le Coin following the road"

Enjoy the climb!

Nir
