Parents - Wednesday afternoon activities for a teenager
My ex wife and I are both working and our 12 y.o. daughter is sometimes on her own on Wednesday afternoon, which I do not like at all. We are of course doing our best to keep her happily busy with friends or activities, but it's not always easy to combine our educational objectives, her wishes, the availability of people around us, etc.

Are you familiar with such a situation and how are you dealing with it ?

I know the problem. I raised 4 young children alone and worked full time and went to school. There are more possibilities for the children in the city than in the villages.

There is an after-school program in the city schools, called Parascolaire and after 12 years of age I think they use the Maisons du Quartier for help with homework, free time together with ados (they plan fun activities) and so forth. Ask your daughter's teacher what is available through the school or neighbourhood.

Also, Jeunesse et Sports, Service des Loisirs de la Jeunesse. Check those for activities on Wednesday afternoon.

Good luck!

Mary, Mimi,

thanks for the tips.

Mimi, I guess your right, but she has not yet gotten to the point where she plans her afternoon with friends, but I guess it will start soon. There's a slight difference between our situations: My daughter is an only child and I don't like to leave her on her own an entire afternoon. I'll suggest the library, great idea.

Mary, I don't know how you managed all that, but hat off!
