Pedestrian Streets in Geneva

There is a referendum this month, aiming to stop the city's plan to pedestrianise initially 50 and eventually 200 sections of road in Geneva.

There is an overview (in French) here: http://www.geneve.verts.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/liste-50-premi%C3%A8res-rues-web1.pdf And an article explaining the issue at stake from Le Temps (also in French) here: http://tinyurl.com/bnc66o7

The referendum was initiated by the UDC, the main right-wing party, who want to maintain the right of car drivers to drive and park everywhere.  If you are eligible to vote, please consider voting on this important issue for the future of the urban environment.

I live in front of the Square Pradier, currently a parking lot.  The pedestrianisation plan would allow restaurants to open al fresco patios on it and run a weekly market instead.  I do occasionally use the parking lot when I rent a car, but could easily use the Cornavin parking lot instead.

The C permit holders who have the right to vote on this issue will have already received their papers together with a synopsis of  the points of view of the various parties
