Permit B Application

There are a lot of threads about Permit applications but none of them really answer my problem.

I have been a resident here for 4 years on a Permit B. My boyfriend has joined me from the UK and currently he is not working. We are expecting a baby in December and the plan is for him to stay at home with the baby whilst I continue to work.

My HR department have advised me that we should not apply for his Permit B until the baby is born and there is proof on the birth certificate that he is the father. Until that point as we are not married we cannot claim that we are 'regroupement familial'.

My concern with this is that it prevents him getting any job in Switzerland and also means he is not entitled to live here until after the baby is born.

Has anyone else applied for a Permit B in this situation? Is my HR department being overly cautious?

Any help appreciated.

It doesn't necessarily mean he can't get a job here - if a potential employer is willing to stamp/sign a B-permit application for him then it's fairly automatic being a UK citizen (assuming he is?).

This is the method I took - my employer signed my application form with all the company details required and the permit took exactly a week to arrive.

Thanks Chris. What I should have added is that he is looking at seasonaljobs and from what I've heard seasonal employers are a little relunctant for the additional paperwork.

Maybe it is an option that you have not considered but if you were married would tha not change things? Certainly a wife can come over with the husband and get a B permit.   Just do not know if Switzerland accepts that the woman can be the bread winner

You should also look into the possibility of an 'L' permit.

But the real answer will be if you ask the authorities which I believe is possible to anonymously or you could get a friend to ask.  Or if your HR department uses an outside lawyer for permits there is nothing to stop you asking him
