Will the Post Office hold mail for you if you go away? If one expects a package to arrive while away, what happens? Especially if the post office only gives one a week to pick it up. Can a friend pick it up with appropriate id and a letter?
Many thanks!

or, a person can indeed pick up a pack if he/she has a certified copy of your ID and a power of attorney.

hey'll hold the mail for 5.–
make sure to establish the power of attorney directly at the post office, prior to your absence.
your friend cannot walk up and present a letter, even if it's been signed to you.
you may also request that the post office will deliver the entire mail to your home on a fixed date, instead of poicking it up. though, make sure you will be at home on delivery date…

They don't have this on the English site :(
But you can sign up for this, at the Post, pay the fee, and then you have automatic login service for ordering that your mail be held temporarily. You can activate it when you are travelling.
GREAT!!!!

You can just go to the post office , fill out a form for this exact reason. They hold it for you as long as you request is for and you have the option of letting someone else access it , or just you.
You need a proof of identity to recuperate your mail on return, (permit, driving licence or passport). I do this whenever I go away.
It will cost you 10f if I remember correctly.
