Problem with cablecom Internet Connection--Help
HI all

We have taken cablecom high speed internet connection. The modem has just one ethernet port. But we want to connect two computers simultenously to it. We dont have wireless router

Kindly help how to split one LAN port into two. If we have to buy LAN spilter, from where do we get that in geneva. Last week i bought ISDN spilter from interdiscount but it is not working. Help how to manage this problem. What device in technical terms and specifications we need to split connection into two.

regards

Hi,

The simplest way is to get a cheap Hub at InterDiscount or any computer shop. The price will be more or less the same as finding an RJ-45 splitter (http://www.usereasy.com/components/images/net/RJ45_Splitter.jpg) which are quite rare to find in Geneva.

Hope this helps.

hello,

actually, a hub or a switch is not enough to have two computers connected to a single modem. you need a router, a router is able to connect to the wan (the modem in this case) with only one single address and to provide on the other side a specific lan address to each computer and to make the translation between wan and lan addresses, in two words : to share your internet connection. hope i'm understandable ...

so have a look at prodimex or 1000ordi shops, they are the cheapest i know : www.prodimex.ch
www.1000ordi.ch

both next to the praille commercial center.

the cheapest router : http://www.1000ordi.ch/productsDisplay.php?product_display=3&productID=20689

cheers, pika

nope, sorry to disagree. the cablecom modem supplies random ip addresses from the 5 that they assign to the customer. i have, for example 3 pc's connected physically to the hub and one port goes to the cablecom modem. no need to secure (not wifi) and the speed is faster and more reliable than wifi. my cablecom connection is a 15 Mbs service. great for streaming movies and tv shows via graboid.com

thanks epicure for correcting me, i cheked on cablecom's site, they provide multiple adress to user of the highspeed 5000, 15000 and 25000 connections, if it's your case, for two computers you will need a simple hub as epicure said.
