Professional violinist in Geneva
Hi,

My wife is an English speaking Curtis-Philadelphia graduate, professional violinist who has had an extensive career and experience in solo concerts, orchestra work and teaching kids and adults of all levels. I was wondering if anyone knows what the teaching opportunities are in this area. Any info/contact would be much appreciated. Thanks.

My son is a professional guitarist and guitar teacher with similar qualifications.  On arrival here last year he was able to find a good deal of work by advertising on Glocals and WRS. At the time he could only teach in English and it seems there was an untapped market for English-speaking guitar teachers.  I could not say whether this would be the case for violin.  It also helped that he was prepared to visit people in their own homes and was able to pick up quite a few clients through referrals from existing students/parents.

There are also several private music schools in Geneva and it would be worth dropping in a CV and/or going in and having a chat with them.  They tend to want people who can teach in French,  but if they have your details they may contact you if they have unmet demand or clients who specifically want tuition in English.

Hello,

Does your wife have any interest in taking on a student? I'm currently looking for a violin teacher.

One contact is the Geneva Amateur Operatic Society whose members include several professional musicians living and working in the Geneva area.

Other possibilities include local English-speaking churches such as Emmanuel (Episcopalian), Holy Trinity (Anglican), Church of Scotland (Presbyterian), John  XXIII Spiritual Centre (RC).  They all have professional musicians and gifted amateurs trained to professional standard in their communities.  See their websites for details.

Other possible places to advertise – apart from glocals, of course – are the American International Women’s Club (Geneva), the International Women’s Club (Nyon), the British Residents’ Association.  They all have websites.

Hope this helps.  Ritchie

Hello,

I'm currently working on the musical score for a short film. We need a violinist to record a solo melodic line. Would your wife be interested?

Thanks,

L. Massey
