Public Schools in Servette/Petit Saconnex

Dear All--

My family and I live in Geneva (Rive Droite) and my daughter, who will turn 4 soon, will be starting school in September. I was wondering if anybody could advise me regarding the following:

1. Which schools in the Servette/ Grand Pres/ Petit Saconnex area are good and/or what would be a good place to find reviews?

2. Which schools in the Servrette/Grand Pres/ Petit Saconnex area should be avoided?

3. What are our options and what is the process for requesting a particular school?

Many thanks for your kind help!
Greg

Hi Greg,

My kids went to school in the petit Saconnex area, they went to Bude, and Genêts and I was very content with the school system.

I would recommend these schools.

Hope that helps!

Jarina

You can try and make a request, budé and trembley are both good and pretty much accessible, if you live near these schools they might consider it. But you can't choose a school if your child goes to a public school.

I can recommend les Genêts. My son went there and they are rather good. Multinational classes, lots of UN families, excellent environment.

This being said public schools are allocated by the administration based on residency address. Not necessarily reflecting parent's logic or priorities. One may always contact the targeted school and write a request, explaining the reason.

Dear Jarina and Gerald,  That's very helpful.  Thank you for your advice!  If anyone else has strong views (pro or con) on particular schools in the Servette/Grand Pres/Petit Saconnex area, I'd love to hear from you.

Best,

Greg

My experience with Trembley was OK until my daughter was bullied (this was 8 years ago). We ended up pulling her out of the school BUT i don't blame the school for this, the school have a very good program you just need to alot some of your time in picking up your child and monitor his/her progress.

Jarina and swisskiss seems to have good experience with les Genêts, why not go for that.

My kid goes to Geisendorf in Servette (public school), and we're happy with it.

As people noted here tho, if you send your kids to public school, you don't get to choose (unless it's a very rare case).

Importantly, The public schools here are very regulated, so the system is 99% identical in the schools. So the differences your kids will feel really boil down to the specific teacher that your kid will have, and the other kids in the class.

There are more "rough" parts in Geneva, where it's more likely your kids will share the class with rougher kids. But the areas you list are not among those.
