Public Swimming Facilities - Help please
Hi,

I'm desperately keen to be swimming on a regular basis, but there doesn't seem to be many public swimming baths in Geneva. Or are there some that i'm not aware of?

Presently I've been using the Varembe pool, but quite frankly it's far too busy and is no use if want to a) swim in the evening and b) don't want to get kicked in the face 4 times during each length. It's far too crowded.

Does anyone have any suggestions please? Work demands and my personal body clock tend to both dictate that I swim in the evenings rather than in the mornings. I've been told that Vernets is just as busy as Varembe - although i haven't actually visited yet so any feedback on that place would be awesome. Basically if there are any decent alternatives to varembe then please let me know.

Also, I'm really interested in finding somewhere that offers one-to-one swimming coaching. again any suggestions welcome...

hi,

alternatively, you can always look into taking a gym membership at the crowne plaza near the airport which has a pool opened from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm...

you won't find the crowds except perhaps with hotel guests on saturday and sunday afternoon...

cheers

This is the reason why I quit swimming when I moved here... :w00t:
Anyway it's crowded all day long, I have tried different hours. In the morning you have all the old people who think because you are younger you are the one who has to move and don't seem to understand the concept of slow and fast lanes... , Wednesday is for kids, lunchtime is like evenings, etc.
So if you find a place, let me know![/quote]

That bit above is all Tinkie's but it doesn't glow in the dark as quoted text should do :D

Drives me crazy too . I don't speak French, but still understand the difference between a red rabbit and a green tortoise!

Varembe is always busier I think than Vernets and its smaller (length and width). The best quietest place for lane swimming is the 50m Lancy pool, but it is outdoor summer only :(

Hi Guys,

That's awesome, cheers for all the info. I'll check out Lancy when it's summer again and that one in Grand Sacconex looks worth a try too. I think i'll give Vernets a bash though too as it is pretty near my office.

Thanks again.
