Public transportation to France for grocercies?

I don't have a car, but I want to buy cheap grocercies in France.  Does anyone know of a public transportation route to get to a good grocery store in France?

you can take a bus to ferney voltaire, you have a Carrefour (big supermarket) just after the border. ligne F from gare cornavin.

but Carrefour is not really the cheapest grocery in France.. the cheapest one is Lidl you have one next to the Migros in etrembières (close to annemasse), I go there every week by car.. i have no idea if you can go there by bus..

There is Ed in Ferney.

Otherwise you can get the bus to St Julien where there is a Carrefour market (ex Champion) right on the border, they take CHF.

Are you allowed to shop on the French side of the border :-)

Sure, you can buy food in France and bring it to Switzerland, provided that it does not exceed 300 CHF of value and some amount depending on the kind of food: see http://www.ezv.admin.ch/zollinfo_privat/essen_trinken/00356/index.html?lang=en

Really helpful, thanks! I'm also looking for ways to get to France for grocery. Sophie, would you consider taking a passenger with gas contribution? Would love to join if you go.

There is also a LIDL in Ferney
-> immediately after the border
-> short walk to your right.

... Also... I was recently surprised to discover that 'ED' is now called 'DIA' ...
like the brand that ED carried.
-> from bus stop Brunette, walk 'back' towards the round-about
-> it is next to the Buffalo Grill

Happy shopping:-))
