Question re: Apartment Heating

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could explain whether the regies are obligated to turn on the heat to apartments in Geneva by a particular date.  I don't see anything addressing this specific issue in our lease-agreement; however I had heard that the heating is supposed to come on in Geneva by October 1st.  As you can probably guess from this question - our heating is not on and after frequent calls to our (useless) regie, I have no idea when they will turn it on; they keep saying that it will be "soon", "in the coming days", etc.  But then, when I called today they said that it was due to a "technical problem" and that they had to check each apartment..?!  We have two children under 3 and the youngest is waking up in the night now due to the cold (even though last night we wrapped her up in extra blankets and sweaters).  Our neighbours, who are over 80 years old have also come over to talk about this with us and we don't know what we can do to make the regie turn on the heat!

Any help/guidance would be appreciated.  Our regie is Naef.

From what I know there is no fixed date for the heat to be turned on, but it depends on the outside temperatures. I think the heat is turned on when temoeratures drop under 10 C at night, or something like that. I noticed the heat in my building was turned on 4-5 days ago.

Try to find the concierge who takes care of your building, he will know what's going on. As for the "technical problem", it could be true that they need to purge the heaters, or the boiler has a problem... Do you have direct contact to the owners, or does everything go through Naef?

Look at the old threads. As this appears every year and somewhere there is a good explanation.

Am cold while typing this so will put my hands round my cup of coffee

Thanks everyone, heating come on during the night of the 16th mysteriously.  It's ok though - we called them (Naef) every day (we don't have a concierge), twice a day and then miraculously a technician showed up at our door (obviously unannounced) in the early evening of the 15th and magically made the heat come on the next day.

I love how attentive these regies are to our concerns and questions here in Geneva.  Really quite something.
