I was a member of Rainbow gym in 2002, until I moved to a different neighnorhood and switched gyms. Here's what I remember it:
The facilities are basic (and some are getting a bit old), but more than enough if you're into basic strength and fitness training. You wont get top of the line new stuff there, if that's important for you.
The clientel is mostly french speaking and interested in working out proper, with very few expats who are interested in post gym socialising. So if socialising in English is a big part of the work out for you, Rainow ain't it (in which case you should consider the more expensive HolmesPlace).
Getting out of the contract is not something I remember, but I imagine they work in the same way most gyms work in Geneva: you can register for several months or for a year, and after you sign a contract for that duration, they won't cancel it for you except in very very extreme circumtances. You also need to be careful when you sign up to check they don't have an 'automatic renewal' option hidden in there. I know Sylhouette pull that trick, and it can be costly...
Good luck!
