Recommended Shippers from the US

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a good shipping company?  I need to ship about 200 or 300lbs from the East Coast to Lausanne.  Since it won't be a full container I'm not sure what my shipping options (pallets, partial container, etc.) or know any good reputable shippers.

Thanks for the help.

Fed Ex, UPS, and DHL are all extremely expensive....My ex sent me a jewelry box fed ex and paid over 100 usd for it. The USPS used to be quite affordable and had boat shipping (50 dollars or so for 40 lbs),.. Now I think it is like 120 per box, for up to 40 pounds. It arrived for me this time in like 5 days. But they are super weird and picky about box sizes, so i would buy your boxes directly from there if thats the route you decide to use

You might want to check the "what to bring from the USA" thread in the General Section. You might be able to work something out with MXD NYC who seems to have some "space" in the allotment he can bring over.

The other regular option is to check with the freight departments at airlines such as Swiss and Lufthansa. Both service Geneva from the USA. Luft via Germany of course. Swiss has a direct flight from JFK.

And given the little weight that we are talking, you should check with the airline that you will be using to come to Geneva. Most have a deal for excess baggage and yes it is going to cost you a lot. Be sure to check the option of shipping it on the same plane that you are on or not. Letting the airline decide when they ship the goods should be less expensive.

When I moved overseas seven years ago, I got a great deal from Allied. I brought my stuff to their warehouse in Maryland (it was going out of Baltimore), they put it on a pallet, shrink-wrapped (shrunk-wrapped?) it, and stuck it on a boat. It was about 2 cubic meters and cost me 900 dollars. They delivered it right to my apartment. That was seven years ago, but I'm sure they still do pallets and partial containers.

When I moved from Holland to here five years ago, I went with Interdean. Either company, I would work with again. They were both communicative, up-front and careful with my belongings. I felt I got great value for money.

Thanks everyone for the info.

Verbier, I couldn't find MXD NYC in the Members section; is that his/her user name? Thanks again.

See the subject/discussion in the "General Forum" for more details. Your question is in the "Where/how Forum".

"What Would You Bring from the U.S. to Geneva?"

MXD_NYC is his member name (I had left out the underline).

Hope this helps.
